What is digital competence? How can we implement it in context of Bangladesh?
What is Digital competence?
Digital competence is a wider concept
of ICT competence. It consists of not only the basic ICT skills but also
understanding and knowledge of how to use digital device and applications in a
particular context. Digital competence involves the confident and critical use
of electronic media for work, leisure and communication. These competencies are
related to logical and critical thinking, high-level information management
skills, and well-developed communication skills. It refers to the use of
computers to retrieve, assess, store, produce, present and exchange
information, and to communicate and participate in collaborative virtual
networks. It requires a critical and reflective attitude towards the
information available and responsible use of the interactive media. Digital
competence also refers to the ability to efficiently and critically use
information technology for employment, learning, self-development and
participation in society.
As Bangladesh is developing rapidly in
ICT sector, many of the analog systems are now being replaced by digital tools.
Language learning becomes more enjoyable if it is taught with modern
technologies including audio-visual tools.ICT helps to make it so. And to roam
around and to learn from the digital media we must be aware of the Digital
competence. By introducing ICT or digital media in learning from the tertiary
level might be a good start of implementation of digital competence in
Bangladesh.
